The Former Middleweight Champions of Their Respective Promotions Collide July 7th in Vegas!
Former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Cung Le will make his 1st appearance in the Octagon since his November 19th second round knockout loss to Wanderlei Silva when he fights former UFC Middleweight Champion Rich Franklin on the undercard of UFC 148: CRUZ VS FABER on July 7th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
It's a big weekend for the world's premier MMA promotion, as they will be presenting the UFC Fan Expo at the Mandalay Bay. UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber will settle their differences in the Octagon as the main event of the evening.
Franklin (28-6, 1 NC, 13-5 UFC) has not competed since UFC 126, where he lost via unanimous decision to Forrest Griffin in February 2011. Franklin was expected to return at UFC 133 last August against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, but a shoulder injury forced Nog out of the fight. Franklin then underwent surgery on his own shoulder, which has kept him out of action.
Le (7-2, 0-1 UFC) made his UFC debut in November in a homecoming fight at UFC 139 in San Jose, California. The Vietnamese fighter went 7-1 in Strikeforce, including a TKO victory over Frank Shamrock, in a thrilling match that saw him break Shamrock's arm en route to winning the Strikeforce Middleweight Championship. He subsequently vacated the title to take a role in the Channing Tatum film "Fighting." When he came back, he suffered his first loss, a stunning come-from-behind blast out of nowhere by Scott Smith. He came back and avenged that loss, and then was picked up by UFC after the Strikefoce purchase by Zuffa.
