ROBERT PLANT DOES A SOLO VERSION OF “STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN”

For the first time in 16 years, Robert Plant sang “Stairway To Heaven” this past weekend. Well, at least the first time in public in 16 years. Who knows if the Led Zeppelin lead singer busts out a version in the car or in the shower. But as far as we know, this was the first time in 16 years. Plant sang the Led Zep classic at a charity show in the UK on Saturday night.

The song was performed at a benefit for the Cancer Awareness Trust organized by Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor, who has been battling stage 4 prostate cancer.

Reporters and music historians have been scrambling to figure out if Plant has ever performed the song as a solo artist before this rare appearance. So far, it appears as though Plant has only performed “Stairway To Heaven” with Led Zeppelin, and most recently at the band’s 2007 reunion 16 years ago. There’s also a 1994 television appearance in which he performs it with Led Zep bandmate Jimmy Page.
