Djokovic Wins the US Open

Novak Djokovic, whose remarkable comeback started earlier this year when he won the Wimbledon Championship has completed his journey back to the top of the tennis world, defeating Juan Martín del Potro 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3 to become the US Open Men’s Champion. Djokovic now has three U.S. Open titles and 14 Grand Slam titles in his career, tying him with Pete Sampras for third place all time.

The year started off rocky for Djokovic, who lost in the fourth round at the Australian Open, and then had minor surgery on his right elbow. He had six wins and six losses to start the season, most notably suffering three losses in a row.

And then, Djokovic returned to form.

In his last seven tournaments, Djokovic has racked up a 34-3 record. He beat Rafael Nadal in Wimbledon and Roger Federer in Cincinnati. At 31 years old, his dream of to chase Nadal’s 17 major titles, and Federer’s 20, seems to be within possible reach.
